Rules of Golf – Nearest Point of Relief

Rule 24B – Often when a player’s ball comes to rest on the cart path someone in the foursome is questioning “where is the nearest point of relief”?  That must be because the rule does not seem to be clear. Pam Brosnihan, head professional at Quail Ridge CC in Boynton Beach, FL makes it perfectly clear in her “you tube” video below. This interesting situation described by Pam shows that the nearest point of relief is in the bushes. Not a better spot than the cart path. What are her choices and what should she do? Have you ever found yourself or one of your golf buddies in a similar situation? Remember, if you take relief with one club length there is NO penalty stroke. Actually, anytime there is 1 club length relief there is no penalty stroke. How about that!
